Medical Supplies
Is responsible for facilitation of
the major part of health care in the
Sudan, by means of providing medical
supplies. It is the national center
for selection, procurement, storage
and distribution of medical
supplies.
CMS was established in 1937. In February 1991 CMS became
a “Public Organization” under the Organization Act. 1991” which allows CMS to
exercise the maximum possible autonomy within the framework of the Government
of Sudan select, procure, store and
distribute medicines and medical equipment to public
and private sector.
CMS
has the obligation to exercise maximum
skill, efficiency and diligence in infilling these roles to safeguard that
Medical Supplies reach their destination At the right moment.
The clients of CMS
CMS has various types of clients including rural, provincial, regional,
teaching and university hospitals as well as private health facilities and
NGO’s donor agencies, etc..
The Role of the Ministry Of Finance
The Ministry Of Finance (MOF) delegates to the CMS the authority to procure
and handle medical supplies on behalf of Government Of Sudan/MOH.
Operational Budget
The MOF puts upon CMS the obligation to annually present operational budget
for its own functioning. MOF authorized CMS to add a margin to the cost of
medical supplies. This margin shall cover the expenses of all external and
internal operations of CMS.
The Role of the Ministry Of Health
The MOH under it’s obligation has to provide medical services to the entire
population of the Sudan. It delegates a major part of this task to CMS
including the selection, procurement, storage and distribution of medical
supplies. CMS exercises task obligations in accordance with both the National
Drug Policy and National List of Essential Drugs.

is 300.
CMS plant
is built in two main buildings of total area
of about 45145 m2. The total
roofed area is about 14000 m2.
Warehouses area is about 10750 m2.
